Glutathione is a tripeptide of L-glutamate, L-cysteine and glycine (CAS 70-18-8, molecular formula C10H17N3O6S, MW 307.33 g/mol, PubChem CID 124886). It is unusual among peptides in that its first bond is a γ-glutamyl linkage, formed from the side-chain carboxyl of glutamate rather than the α-carboxyl every ordinary peptide bond uses — which is why it is written γ-L-glutamyl-L-cysteinylglycine and not Glu-Cys-Gly. This is the reduced form, GSH, and its cysteine residue carries a free thiol that oxidizes in air to the disulfide-linked dimer GSSG. So it ships as a sealed lyophilized powder, belongs at -20°C, and should be reconstituted from a vial that has not been sitting open. The 1500mg fill is a consequence of the low 307 g/mol molecular weight rather than of a larger pack size.
